WMHCTA’s first 2019 project on the lower Imnaha River in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area has been completed. With help from a group of U of Idaho students, and leadership (and great chow) courtesy of Paul Flanders, we cleared 4.2 miles of blackberry, rose, hawthorn, chokecherry, and other brush on the trail from Cow Creek bridge to Eureka Bar on April 27-28.

At Eureka Bar, the mouth of the Imnaha on the Snake, we talked about the history and natural history of the place and explored the foundations of the old copper mill. The fire ring got lots of use–days were warm but evenings and mornings were kind of chilly!

The U of I group brought Smores makings and we took advantage of that. The canopy Paul brought, though destroyed by the wind event Saturday afternoon, was great, and he had 2 stoves going and made some darn good chow, including custom fried eggs, flipped to perfection. No one went hungry. The student group leader from U of Idaho was Madi.
