Boots on the Ground
The Wallowa Mountains Hells Canyon Trails Association (WMHCTA) is a community of hikers, packers, and outdoor enthusiasts dedicated to keeping the trails of Hells Canyon and the Wallowa Mountains open and accessible.
Our volunteers clear downed trees, trim brush, install signs, and share their love of the outdoors with youth and visitors - protecting these trails for everyone who seeks adventure, peace, and connection in the wild.
What We Do

Trail Clearing & Maintenance
Removing logs and brush from trails, improving and rebuilding tread.

Hands-On Trainings
We offer chainsaw, crosscut and other training taught with a hands-on field approach.

Trail Ambassadors
Assist visitors at popular trailheads with valuable trail information.

Help build and preserve important structures and bridges.

Sign Creation & Installation
We work with the Forest Service to reproduce, replace, improve, and install signage.
Real Impact. Real Fun.
Working closely with the US Forest Service and other partners, members gain lasting friendships, become part of an exciting trail community, and learn valuable outdoor skills to make a positive impact on local trails.
