Chief Joseph Mountain 2018

Chief Joseph Mountain 2018

Sixteen people (8 from WMHCTA, plus 8 from Eastern Oregon University) worked on the trail on Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20. They worked on about two miles of trail, starting from the Wallowa Lake State Park cutoff trail junction and continuing uphill. The weather was good on Saturday, cloudy then raining on SundayOn Saturday, the crew broke up into three teams:  one team focused on a logjam of about 10 very large trees that were all jackstrawed together. Another team started from the highest end of the project, logging and brushing toward the trailhead. A third team brushed from the switchback toward the trail junction. On Sunday, with fewer people (8), everyone focused on finishing the brushing from the switchback to the trail junction. In summary, the crew took out 45 trees and brushed the entire section of trail, so the project was a success. Much work remains to be done higher on the trail, but that will have to wait for another year!
